Not really a luxury hotel, the rooms are started to show their age and wear and tear. Mine was a garden view room downstairs. The room smelled musty, and needed some work - the wallpaper was peeling in spots, fridge didn't work, broken towel hooks etc in the bathroom. The TVs are also really outdated, no streaming services or apps available. Lots of noise transfer between the rooms.Service was ok but nothing exceptional. This hotel is fine, just not luxury. Location is great if you prefer to be more in an area of locals rather than tourists everywhere. Great food options nearby. I couldn't try the hotel restaurant because it was closed as they didn't have a chef.
The hotel is nice, but there are certain things I don't understand for a 4-star rating. How can a 4-star hotel have mattresses with springs from the Victorian era?"
We had a great stay here!First off it’s an old home with small bathrooms, a bunch of stairs, and no elevator so you should expect that it’s going to be a little different than a stay at one of the big chains. We showed up a bit early so we stopped by to see if we could drop off our bags. We were told that would be fine or we could wait a few minutes while our room was readied. We chose to hang out and were offered coffee or tea while we waited. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, view was fantastic. Just far enough away from the strip to feel a lot more local and calm.I informed them that we’d be missing breakfast service to catch an early flight and when we went down to check out they’d packed us brown bag lunches to take with us for our traveling day. I guess it was a little thing but it seemed pretty special! And as promised the sandwiches were legendary. I absolutely wouldn’t hesitate to book again the next time I’m in town.
Nira Caledonia is a pretty little jewel of a hotel. The service was fantastic. I wanted a comfy, pretty room for my last night in Edinburgh after being on a group tour. This was perfect! The dining room is beautifully appointed & cozy. The breakfast was much better than the average hotel breakfast. I wish I had tried the dinner service. The hotel is located on a beautiful street close to so much. You will love it!
This is not a 4 star Hotel!!! At best, the utter and complete lack of staff and services make this a 1-2 star. No room service, no valet, no bellman. To save money the Hotel owners maintain bare bones staffing. They choose to not hire a chef, so the restaurant is closed. You lug your own bags up stairs. When your tissues run out, they don’t give you a new box, they stick 3-4 tissues into the old box (saves money). The web site and laundry slip says deliver laundry by 8:15 AM, get it back that day. When we returned at ~17:00, the lone employee had zero clue has to any laundry service whatsoever, our laundry was not there and this person had no idea or concept of how or if the hotel did laundry, let alone how or who to call to find our laundry. The hotel was supposed to arrange a car for us to get to the airport. There was zero effort or action, despite it being a note on our file. The hotel staff did not order a car, thus we relied on Uber. This is NOT a four star hotel. This is a “bare bones”, not luxury, minimal services, staffed not trained, bare bones staffing to save money. Oh, and the computers were down so I couldn’t get a folio. What a poorly run hotel. I do not blame the staff that was there!! This is a result of ownership not training and not caring.
The only redeeming quality of this hotel is the location. When we arrived there was no hot water available for a shower. The walls are paper thin, we could clearly hear a guest in another room coughing and anytime someone was in the hall it was just as loud as if our door was wide open. All night there was a sound of a breaker or something going on and off, keeping us up. Wouldn't recommend staying here unless you are a heavy sleeper or don’t mind being woken up all night. We were also advised when checking in that breakfast was included, then when checking out were charged almost £30 for said breakfast, which was a very meagre and lacking continental breakfast and coffee from a commercial pre programmed machine. For that price we would have much preferred to walk a half block away to visit an actual restaurant or nice cafe. When we told the concierge we were advised this was included previously, nothing was done to attempt to rectify this. This was noted in a review on the site we booked it on, and the hotel replied back stating that there may have been a “confusion” and that the continental breakfast was included, but they “offered cooked items as an additional option for an extra charge, which might have led to the discrepancy”. This is a joke and insinuates this is our error when we did not order anything off the hot menu and only ate the continental breakfast which was communicated to be included. No responsibility has been taken by the hotel and no effort has been made to rectify this. Overall, extremely overpriced for what it is. Wouldn't stay again and wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
My wife and I stayed for two nights, on a spa package. Everything was excellent, including food, pool facilities, bedroom, service. In particular, the restaurant staff were very patient with us, when we needed to check various items on the menu for dietary requirements. The spa was the highlight for us of course. After a very relaxing massage, we rested in the relaxation room for over an hour and even dropped off to sleep. It was hard to leave and we will be back!
Two day break, everything was lovely....Except....if you're vegetarian dinner-portion size was for a small herbivore! Service was great thoughBreakfast was fabulous though and the spa is lovely. The parkland around was great for walking our dog, and the room was great, we could open the door and let her out...we would definitely go back
This is the perfect hotel. Well, almost perfect. Even with the elevators we had to lift our suitcase up a few steps, but that's the only complaint. Although, you cannot connect your devices (or share screen) to the television to enjoy your streaming services. The bathroom had everything you need from a shower/bath to q-tips. The bed had two night stands and built in USB spots, the bed was impressively comfortable as were the pillows. The room was immaculate and so elegant. I love the stuffed highland cow on the bed they use for cleaning services. Also, they offered to make us a to-go breakfast. The grounds around the hotel are beautiful too. Oh and it's about 11.4 miles from the airport. At reception, they can book a hotel for you ahead of time and have them there waiting for you. We needed on for 6:45 in the morning and they set up the night before, fantastic! And it's so close to the airport it was under twenty pounds for the ride. We were only there one night and did not get to enjoy the spa or other services but I am sure based on what I saw they were fabulous as well. If we ever go back to Edinburgh this will be our hotel of choice.
Attended a wedding here recently. The venue was excellent for meal, speeches and ceilidh with beautiful grounds outside to wander to catch your breath. The real highlight for me however, was the whisky snug located in the main part of the hotel. The decor was very grand and the whisky selection was excellent (lots of old/rare single malts) the prices were a little steep, as to be expected in hotels like this but the setting and selection made up for this, especially as a treat!
End of honeymoon surprise booking for us by Tenon Tours! Absolutely wonderful! The spa was great to unwind from the 1000 mile travel we did around Scotland and the staff was helpful and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were great! Room was superb! We didn’t get a chance to explore the grounds but not because of the hotel, just short time plus it was raining! Close to the airport so it was wonderful and convenient as the final night on our trip. Hotel arranged a taxi to the airport for us in the morning. Couldn’t have been happier with our honeymoon finish!
