Beautiful And lovely to see how the owners have Made the place full of joy.The gentleman was lovely, thoughtful who met with us and was service with a smile, felt comfortable and our Room was extremely spacious and everything we needed for the night.
For a first night stay, it's quiet. The location is beautiful and rooms are quite spacious.Only pointers are: bathroom is shared and shops are around a 20 minute walk so transportation is definitely recommended or stock up before you go!!The noise is here pretty quiet, aside from guests creaking around (as any hotel out there), you can easily get to sleep hearing sounds of nature as the building is tucked away from the road!Overall yeah, I'd definitely stay again for the price and environment. Beautiful area with friendly people - 5 stars
Marvellous one night stay at Hedgefield house. We stayed In room 4 which was very peaceful with a lovely view of the gardens. Good bathroom, comfy bed, great tea and coffee making facilities. Very peaceful place which made for a wonderful nights sleep. Thank you to David who was helpful and friendly. Would stay again.
Booked 1 night away for my birthday.Had an absolutely wonderful stay. The hotel left some little gifts in the room for my birthday and we got a voucher for 2 free cocktails aswel.Room was lovely.Location great. Nice distance to be quiet enough but only about 20 minutes to centre on foot and it's a lovely walk in along the front.Breakfast was also lovely. No complaints at all
Mixed experience here. The hotel and room were lovely and very comfortable, and the food I had from room service was delicious. There was a loud humming/draining sound coming from the ceiling which was preventing me from falling asleep, the night manager very kindly let me into another room to sleep there, and was very gracious in resolving the issue (the plumbing in the bathroom above). The reason I have given 2, not 4 stars, is that while I was halfway through eating breakfast, the bistro manager came with the card machine to try and charge me for breakfast, which was included in the room rate I had paid. I then had to sit there and go through the rigmarole of logging into booking.com to find the receipt, which made me download the app, all the while he was hovering over me while my hot breakfast (not cheap at £24!!) went cold. Lastly, housekeeping came into the room when I was preparing to get in the shower, having been told I had already checked out.For over £200 for one night including the dog* and what I spent in the bistro, I'm not impressed, and it's a shame my visit ended on a negative. I explained this when checking out and while they were apologetic, that was it. Unlikely to return here as a result.*while I very much appreciate hotels that allow dogs, 25 per night is a little excessive (never paid more than 10 anywhere else, for a 4kg dog) considering it is still a little awkward as you can't take them to breakfast but also can't leave them in the room. The bar staff helpfully kept an eye on her while I went to the buffet, but it wasn't ideal.
The hotel is very nice, set in a great location with easy access to Newcastle city centre and the quayside. The biggest let down was checking was meant to be at 3 room, wasn't ready for another hour, and two of the lights weren't working and there was a gross dirty top down behind one of the chaise lounges in the room and all they did for the delay was give a complementary glass of champagne. The cooked full English breakfast wasn't great but the continental breakfast was somewhat okay.
A Sunday lunch to remember..First off, we asked to have the £20 roast beef and a drink as advertised on the menu, but after much back and forth we were told it was only available 5-7pm, which it did not say on the menu. We were told we had to have 2 courses for £30 even though we all just wanted one course.Secondly, the starter was a buffet which 2 of the party chose, except the waitress didn’t realise, and so the mains came within just 5 minutes of ordering, before those having a starter had managed more than a mouthful. Then the meals came out- one burger had relish on though we asked for it without, which while often happens so is nothing major, only added to the frustration of this particular experience.2 people had the roast beef, which was akin to half a pack of supermarket sandwich meat- I have never seen such thin meat served at a roast. Also, the stuffing which came with the chicken was mostly burnt, and rather than just bringing new stuffing, they tried to take my plate away to amend this while I was actively eating. We were offered free dessert, and despite feeling ready to leave we did order some and these were good, particularly the crème brûlée.But the cherry on the cake was when the bill arrived. We were told they waived the service charge, charged for one course each, and gave us 10% off which sounded very reasonable. We were given a bill of approx £100 for 5 people for 5 mains (so still more than the £20 drink/meal combo on the menu!), which we were happy to pay. But then the bill was whisked away from us when we tried to pay, and replaced with a bill for over £130! As you may guess, we paid the £100 bill, not the second amended one (I’m also not sure where the 10% off went). All in all, below average food at a high price with service that was a disaster. We had been looking forward to this for weeks, and unfortunately will remember it for all the wrong reasons.
Wow! Stayed here for our wedding anniversary… and what a treat it was! Absolutely stunning hotel, great rooms with fabulous attention to detail! This is a lovely hotel. The rooms are trully fantastic. The junior suite was marvellous. Very comfortable bed and lovely atmosphere in the room. And throughout the hotel. Feels light and airy everywhere. The restaurant serves delicious food catering for vegans as well. The staff is wonderful. Highly recommended.
