Bartender does not know how to make a rye Manhattan. And to top that all off, I asked for it straight up and it came on the rocks. Both a cherry and a lemon twist came with it. Major miscommunication between the waiter who took my order and the bartender. Unbelievable really.

I went for a girls weekend with my mom and 6 year old daughter. The hotel itself is gorgeous and the grounds are also beautiful. We stayed for 2 nights and there was plenty to do on the property to enjoy! We unfortunately didn't get to use the spa, but the pool and pool services and the bar and lounge were wonderful. The food was great and room service was very timely and delicious. I would definitely recommend this hotel. The little details in the rooms and throughout the hotel made it even better! I will definitely be back and check out the spa next time.

We go every year for tea for my birthday and it’s amazing. Also had my daughter’s bridal shower in the Umstead Herons restaurant, and it was also amazing. Highly recommend for anything you may need. The service is five star as are the facilities. It is one of the truly luxurious places that I know of in North Carolina. I believe it is the only five star facility in North Carolina. It is truly an amazing experience to stay or dine here . Tea at the Umstead is always amazing. 5 star service and location

My wife and I had the most amazing mid-week anniversary getaway here. The facilities are top tier and their staff are some of the best have ever experienced. I want to personally acknowledge Taylor Rodes. He remembered me immediately from previous stays years ago, and provided the best customer service I have ever experienced. The Umstead is hands down the best hotel in the Raleigh area. Thank you all for a wonderful experience.

My day spent at the Umstead Spa was magnificent! Of course the facilities and services were luxurious as one would expect at a 5-star venue, but what made it truly spectacular was its people! I was gifted a Sandhills Massage, and what an amazing gift it turned out to be! Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the expert massage, the sauna, the soothing indoor and outdoor pools, relaxing lounges, etc. But again, the most impressive part was the way each staff member made me feel like a VIP, catering to and anticipating my every need. I enjoyed the Spa for about 4 hours at my leisure, and every staff member I encountered called me by name, and even pronounced it correctly! That is unheard of! I only said my name once as I was checking in. The receiving clerk must have listened intently and then passed on the correct pronunciation of my name from person to person, like the old-fashioned game of 'gossip!' 😁 This made me feel quite special and right at home. After enjoying all the Spa amenities, I of course headed upstairs to enjoy a cocktail and lunch in the Bar and Lounge. The bartender and server were just as delightful and accommodating as the Spa staff. The Umstead is a beautiful oasis for a special occasion or if you simply need to be pampered.

Came here to celebrate my 15 year anniversary. The short is it was not worth 600+ a night.-Room was not ready on time, didn’t get to my room until close to 5pm-Pond trail was full of mosquitoes 🦟 so it was memorable for the wrong reason. Being bug spray if it rained heavily prior to arrival.-Came here for their dinner experience but was told their restaurant was fully booked by the time our room was ready. Ensure you call ahead of time.-Onboarding: need to be consistent, some guest are treated with champagne 🍾 at check in while others are not.The downturn service was phenomenal, although the gentlemen came two hours after checking in, he was very professional, down to earth and accommodating.The pool staff were very attentive. The pool furniture was nice and included clean fresh towel covers.

We celebrated my daughter's 50th birthday celebration at the Fairmont grand Del Mar and it was memorable and outstanding! The villas are awesome and the service by the staff is impeccable! We will return and enjoy the golf course , pools, and restaurants as well. This hotel/resort is second to none..... excellent!

While the resort itself is beautiful, our overall experience did not meet expectations.The issues began with our room. Although the property was stunning for the holidays, the room itself was disappointing. There was a large crack in the ceiling, spills on the drapes, a non-functional bedside lamp, a broken charging dock, and a loose drain plug that made the bathtub unusable. Additionally, we experienced delays in receiving service. We had to call the bellman twice—initially with no estimated time of arrival, and when they did not show up within 10-15 minutes, we called again. This delay impacted our schedule, as we were heading to a soccer tournament.The outdoor Christmas event, while visually lovely, was poorly organized. There were no clear signs for ordering food or drinks, and the food was left uncovered in open containers, making it seem unsanitary. The disorganized setup, with items scattered around and trash left on the bar top, detracted from the overall experience. Bartenders had to walk to the far end of the event to retrieve alcoholic beverages, which caused significant delays. Ultimately, we decided to leave the property for food and drinks. This level of disarray is unacceptable for a five-diamond resort. Additionally, the food area was poorly maintained, with flies present, and there was a noticeable lack of staff to assist guests.There were, however, a few positive aspects during our stay. The arrival process was seamless, from the guard gate to the bellman, and the front desk agent who walked us to the elevators. The bartenders were friendly, and the staff at Cent-ani were exceptional, going above and beyond to help us stay within our Food & Beverage credit. The bartender at the clubhouse was also wonderful and demonstrated service fitting for a five-diamond resort.Unfortunately, despite addressing these issues during check-out and showing photos of the room’s condition, we received no apology, acknowledgment, or even a simple thank you for our stay. As hospitality professionals ourselves, this lack of response was especially disappointing. We had hoped for an experience that matched the reputation of your hotel, but instead, the service fell short of expectations for a five-diamond resort.Additionally, there was confusion with charges on our debit card. The front desk agent agreed to remove a charge for an unauthorized tip back to the room, as we had paid tips in cash, and also removed valet charges. He mentioned a manager would reach out to discuss the issues, but we never heard from anyone. Despite multiple follow-up calls on 12/10 and 12/18, and an email sent after our phone conversation on 12/18, providing a receipt from Cent-ani showing our total was under the Food & Beverage credit and should have been covered, along with the bank charge details, the issue remains unresolved. We are still waiting for an explanation regarding the unexplained charge on our account after receiving our final bill at check-out.As hospitality professionals with 17 years of experience, we are particularly disappointed by this stay. Unless the hotel addresses these concerns, we do not foresee returning. We had hoped for a high-quality experience that reflected the reputation of your hotel and the standards of a five-diamond resort, but instead, we feel the overall service and room conditions fell short of expectations.

Beautiful hotel to spend the Christmas holiday. Rooms were nice but service fell short. We wanted to enjoy our visit but from beginning to end the service was lacking. One of the managers spoke with my dad and they admitted they simply could get the help necessary. This was disappointing. From the maid service, to room service, to the servers at Amaya what should have been a 5 star experience was sub par. I hope this serves as a red flag to both the management and people considering staying at this property, especially over major holidays.

As vegetarians, we’ve found that there are very limited choices on the menu, and unfortunately, the few options available don’t meet our expectations in terms of quality or variety.This has forced us to leave the hotel to find suitable meals, which is quite inconvenient and diminishes the overall experience of staying here. Expanding the vegetarian offerings would not only enhance guest satisfaction but also cater to a growing number of travelers who follow plant-based diets. Thank you for considering this suggestion.

The Grand social for salsa is so much fun! I was just a little mad I didn’t want a drink with alcohol and the waiter didn’t listen. He got me a drink with alcohol that I paid $30 for!!

A person who lives in San Diego recommended this place, so I visited to use it along with the golf course. It was the best hotel I have ever stayed at in the US. When I picked up the phone, they knew what I was talking about and I was impressed. The service that puts the customer's needs first was the best. The staff's response made my vacation perfect and I want to visit here again. I was grateful to the hotel staff who made my time happy.

Went to a really cool wedding that was hosted here. The staff are the most attentive out of any other wedding venue I’ve ever seen. Food was delicious and everything was pretty well organized. You can’t go wrong if you book this venue for your own wedding!

We went there for a few days vacation, the resort was stunning! I love the rustic Spanish style, it’s luxurious and elegant.Upon arrival, the receptionist was friendly and professional. The room was spacious, clean and organised. However, I felt it’s a bit dusty and my allergies started acting up. Also, the pillows were not too comfortable.Room service was great, concierge (Stephanie) was very helpful and nice.The swimming pool was great, love the service and the location. The place is kids friendly and provide amazing activities for family.Food was good and high-quality, however, not a lot of options.Overall, we are definitely going back, and I recommend this place for family vacation.

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a fantastic experience, thanks to the exceptional reception service. From the moment I walked in, the reception staff made me feel welcome and took care of everything efficiently. They were super attentive and always ready to help with any request. Great place to relax with friends, families .The service is excellent. Clean environment and absolutely relaxing. The ambiance of the spa is so peaceful and calming. They have spacious area of jacuzzi and sauna. I will definitely comeback here. Love the atmosphere. Highly recommended.

What a terrific place to stay. Beautiful grounds. Quiet, relaxing. Classic styling in the hotel. Welcoming, friendly staff. Loved the workout area, went daily. Everything you'd want on a stay. The bartender by the pool made a fantastic mezcal margarita.Was in town for a conference near gaslamp, found it easy to come and go from here to there. Great experience, will absolutely be back

Kind of eats at me to not give this place five stars. I would never tell someone not to stay here. The Addison is incredible, must go! The Grand Club golf course was amazing as well. Food and service, top tierWife and I just had a really awkward check in experience (emphasis on the bad check in) I won’t get into here. We also had a giant spider and spider webs in our room. Older hotel, not quite our scene.Absolutely stay here, I’d bet if you went, there’s a 90% chance you’re giving it 5 stars!!!

My wife and I celebrated our wedding at this venue in 2017, and we absolutely cherish every visit we make here. During our recent stay, Neil P. provided exceptional assistance, going above and beyond to accommodate our needs and those of our daughter. His amazing efforts made the setup seamless and enhanced our stay beyond our expectations. Kaitlin D. also contributed significantly to our positive experience during our stay. The staff at the Fairmont Grand is undeniably exceptional. As for the hotel itself, it stands as the finest we've ever encountered, consistently delivering a superior experience with its impressive grounds, restaurants, amenities, and overall service.

Stayed here Thanksgiving weekend with my wife. It's one of the nicest hotels I've been to in California. Don't play golf, so there's a big bit of this place I'm sure I'm missing out on. Room service and service in general was very good. Loved everything on the in-room dining menu except Turkey club was bland. Gym has benches and decent selection of weights. Treadmills were nice. Everyone's got a warm hello. Will stay here again.

Beautiful place. Only wished that the swimming pool had longer open hours. We were on a business trip so we were only there for 2 nights. First night arrived late so couldn't swim. Second night got back around 9pm from business stuff. And we had to head out at 8am both mornings so the pool opening at only 7am is too much of a rush to go for a swim in the morning (I like swimming leisurely and spending at least 30 minutes in the pool, and I take a while to clean up and get ready after a swim). Aside from pool hours, if we could come back to this place again, we would!

We were lucky to secure a spa spot for 2 people on Friday morning a day in advance. My spa day at Fairmont Del Mar began with a massage and extended to the pools. The facility features two pools - a public, family-style pool, and an exclusive one for hotel and spa guests, which tends to attract a younger crowd.The spa area has amenities like a jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. The shower essentials provided had a pleasant aroma, and they offered robes and slippers added comfort.They offer also a yoga classes on the pool that is free as part of the spa package or for hotel guests.Lunch offered flexibility, allowing guests to dine by the pool or at the restaurant. Food was over prices but I lived what I ordered fish taco.Moving between the pools was easy, with the option of using a cart or walking a short distance.I was even able to finish a zoom meeting while I was there.If you're looking for a comprehensive escape, it's worth considering.

Phenomenal resort. The hotel grounds are immaculate and you feel as though you are in Italy more than Southern California (as if it’s not beautiful enough). The rooms are spacious and service is top-notch. We enjoyed a few days by the pool; the hotel also has a golf course and stables for horseback riding. The only call out would be that the food is extremely pricey for what it is, but expected at a luxury resort. This is certainly a stay to be remembered.

This is an absolutely amazing property. A true 5 star resort. The employees and service were incredible. The grounds are beautiful, expansive, and well kept. Rooms are big with a great sized bathroom. Beautiful gym with high end equipment. We didn’t eat on property, so I can’t speak to the quality of food. Pool service was also great, well staffed and attentive to guests. My favorite part was the beautiful library filled with books of different genres you could borrow during your stay.
