I stay in Newport about 3 to 4 times a month for work and have stayed at nearly every hotel and B&B in Newport and this is my favorite. Easily the best breakfast of any B&B (included in the stay), I always get the French toast, sausage and an omelet for like an extra 6 bucks. Rooms are spacious and cozy, most have fireplaces and jacuzzis. Walking distance to everywhere I want to go downtown and at the harbor but not smack in the middle so I don't have to deal with noise or bad traffic. But my favorite aspect is the amazing staff and service. It's one of the reasons I keep coming back here no matter how many other hotels and B&Bs I've tried in Newport. This is always my recommendation as far as a B&B or hotel when people come to Newport

Right in the heart of it , dog ... And smoker friendly (outside smoking) they offer free Brandy and a few other drinks to warm you up upon arrival. I'll definitely stay here again.. they don't make em like this anymore..but a few still do and that's lovely. Make some friends both furry and human

I have a hard time vetting B&Bs when browsing online. Is the place cute, or dated? Will it feel truly cozy and inviting? It's so, so hard to tell without physically being there.Well, my wife and I were there, and it was everything we'd hoped it would be. Bed was super comfortable. Everything was clean. The folks were friendly. The living room was delightful to sit in, especially with the tree/fireplace/music. And the brandy/port/sherry selection was a delightful plus! 🙂We could hear some sound from other rooms, but it wasn't an issue. We can't wait to go back.

Friendly staff greeted us upon our arrival, though they do offer a contactless check-in for those who prefer that option. Located in a neighbohood with narrow streets, we appreciated the off street parking. There are shops and eating options within walking distance (in this case that can mean up to 1 mile). Tons of activities, shops, mansions, are within easy short bike rides of less than ~3-5 miles. The room we stayed in was simply but nicely appointed. The bathroom was very clean and we noted this throughout the property. The same was true of the dining room and breakfast area, very clean. The quality of the breakfast offer was simple and okay. I would not stay there specifically for the breakfast but what they offered was well done. The morning included a few sweet, freshly baked treats. One comment I would offer is that the property is not particularly handicap/disabilitiy friendly. There are first floor rooms but there are stairs to get into both the cottage and the main house as well as stairs for 2nd and 3rd floor rooms.Bottom line, we would stay there again without hesitation.

Our stay at Beech Tree Inn was "something to write home about". We were in main bldg and our unit was beautiful, clean and spacious. And so is rest of the house. and the neighborhood! Most places( resturants, cafes, stores etc) were w in walking distance. A big plus.Breakfast was delicious n served timely. The only negative thing for me were stairs (due to my ankle injury) and I realized each house in the vicinity had stairs....My heart totally melted when our gracious host helped me w bringing one of my suitcases down.We are delighted to recommend this place and hope to come back soon.

We visited Newport for the first time this past weekend and stayed here. Awesome and beautiful cottage. We would prefer to stay at the main house which is gorgeous, but it was to late, everything was booked. Cassandra and Ezra her son are very cool and friendly . Made us feel like home even when it’s theirs.Breakfast is good, served hot and fresh. Excellent service. Very good location close to everything and convenient on site parking lot.Rooms are impeccably clean and beds very comfortable. We love it!!! We already want to go back.

What a beautiful inn. We stayed in a king size room with a jacuzzi tub. Fantastic!! The breakfast was delicious and served either in the dining room or in your bedroom. Everything was immaculate. On the third floor was a coffee maker and full size refrigerator that was for the guests. Very nice for chilling our beer and wine. I will definitely stay here again.

We loved this inn! Everything (room and public spaces) was spotlessly clean--and I mean CLEAN; we're very particular about that. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very nice; not phenomenal, but very nice (we wouldn't go back if it was a restaurant, but as a free inn breakfast, we enjoyed it). And the location was great for walking: we didn't drive our car the whole time we were in Newport, and we loved it. The trolley (free during summer) also stops a few blocks away, if you need to not walk. I highly recommend the Beech Tree Inn!

I stayed at the Beech Tree Inn with my husband and 1-year-old daughter. This was our first time staying in a B&B and we had a wonderful stay! We were so pleased with everything, the second we walked into the room. I’ve never stayed in a room that was so clean. It was spotless! The room and bathroom were very spacious. The bed was so comfortable. We appreciated the ceiling fan and the AC unit in the room so we could keep the room at our preferred temperature. The breakfast was delicious too!We enjoyed the location, as well. We walked everywhere besides the beach (which is within walking distance too). The house is surrounded by other beautiful homes and B&B’s. We really hope that we get the chance to come back here in the future!!

It's been a few years since we last stayed at the Chanler and it is everything we remember it being: beautiful grounds, exceptional service, and gorgeous rooms. The staff treated us like royalty. They made our anniversary so special. Our bathroom did have some issues and definitely needs a makeover but the staff tried their best to fix the issues we had. The high level of service made up for it and the staff made this vacation so wonderful. Thank you for everything!

This was my first time at the Chanler. I went with my mom for her birthday and as soon as we walked in, the front desk attendant wished her a Happy Birthday. The entire stay the staff remembered it was my mother's birthday. The room was perfect. The service was unmatched. This is truly a 5 star property. I felt like a princess! The next time I visit, I am not even sure if I will leave the property!

I came to Pennsylvania to visit Rhode island. The place is fantastic and view is unbelievable. But unfortunately bar tender " VIDA" is rude. She doesn't want serve. She said I'm not serving fast go inside and order from inside. My friends were outside and I decided wait her. She served to everyone and she didn't take my order, she went to clean other tables. How this kind of luxury place can hire luck of behavior person to work in this place? Because of her I would never visit that place.

The Chanler...A by the shore mansion hotel with stunning views and a beautiful lawn. Staff were very good with only one hiccup. (Unnecessary seating altercation with dinner hostess). Also, only 3 stars because of our small guest room size and using the unnecessarily difficult shower and phone has be figured out. (Yes, we were given quickly forgotten usage instructions). The biggie is NO elevator! Get ready for a workout. Their tour guide Jeff is outstanding. He knows the area and it's history and gave us a nice surprise. Also they offer a handy shuttle. Also our room had a very welcoming patio again with stunning views. I would certainly enjoy this hotel again

The Chanler is a rare treat: incredible location on the Cliff Walk, overlooking a sandy inlet. All the rooms we've stayed in are creatively and lavishly decorated. The Briar room has a courtyard with lawn , porch and private hot tub cabana. At dinner on the porch we watched Osprey's circling and hunting for fish over the bay for hours.

It’s going to be difficult to put into words just how magnificent this hotel is but I will give it a shot! This was a very special stay for us. We spent one night in the Nantucket, celebrating a 55th birthday. The stay started with driving through wrought iron gates, a view of one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever seen, our doors being opened for us and glasses of sparkling wine. The grounds are pristine and the location is one of a kind. Everyone at the front desk is exceptional at what they do. I had our dinner reservation changed three times with ease and a genuine willingness to assist. The gentlemen that escorted us to our room was so knowledgeable, giving us a brief history of the hotel and our room. The view from this room is literally breathtaking. Waking up to the sun glistening off the ocean from our own private deck was something I will never forget. It is truly one of the most magical places I’ve ever been to. On our departure we were gifted a beautiful bottle of olive oil. I highly recommend The Chanler and will most certainly be back. This hotel hits every single mark and exceeds expectations.

Came to Newport for a day trip from Boston and looked forward to ending the night with a beautiful dinner. While the drinks and service were excellent, I was left unbelievably disappointed at our entree. We ordered the wagyu tomahawk medium rare and it somehow came out over cooked and cold. I was also told they cut around the fat to provide the best cuts but the steak felt like it was 40% extra fat. Extremely disappointing from what should be a premier restaurant.

I live in Newport and have been here numerous times throughout the year. I absolutely love the sophistication, menu and bar options. The service is impeccable and I find the staff to be warm, welcoming and very sincere. As locals we strive to support businesses in both their high and low season. But I had to rate this establishment at a three overall because I was sorely disappointed multiple times when calling ahead to find out if lawn service and bar was open — the man who answered the phone and catered to my question was distant, cold and rude. He made me feel as if I were a second class citizen for not being a hotel guest and was rude explaining that service outside on the lawn was reserved for guests — I’ve never been turned away there so found this incredibly rude. It was a disappointment for the 4 friends we had visiting. We had hoped to spend a few hours on the own drinking cocktails Wednesday afternoon - but at the price they cost, his rude manner and unwillingness to convey whether we’d actually be able to enjoy some private lawn time really made me pause. Instead we went to another cliff side restaurant and spent over 700$ dining.I’m summers, While the Chanler is only 4 blocks from our home and we’ve had multiple friends stay there - and it’s always been our first local choice for a cocktail and respite from the business of life, I am not sure how long I will frequent it if ever again. The welcoming nature to residents needs to be improved - and at a minimum the man answering their phones should be schooled with some manners. And there’s one thing Newport is y short of - fine dining and views! There are many other fine dining and drinking establishments to enjoy with outstanding views. This isn’t the only game in town. It’s a shame though - untilYesterdays phone call I always feltwelcome and special ~ whether I had a hotel room or not!

We walked in right as they were shutting down after lunch and they graciously let us in to order a great meal. The view is spectacular. Food was very very good. We had the seafood pasta, the Chandler burgers, oysters, smoked salmon. All! Awesome. Did I mention the views?? This is a must visit!! Service (Antonija) is excellent. She was so patient with great suggestions. This place will stay with you as a wonderful memory.

My wife and I just stayed here for our first trip away from our daughters. The entire trip was amazing. The estate and rooms were exceptional with every detail thought of. The restaurant was amazing and the food was some of the best we have had.But what made it such a wonderful experience was the staff and service.Craig picked us up at the airport and was kind, funny and patient. Making it a fun trip into the Chanler. Plus he knows his history of the Island so we got to see and learn a lot on the way in and the way out.Paige greeted and helped us get into our room and throughout our stay. She understands how to create a luxury experience for guests. My wife and I constantly felt like we were the most important people there. A very humbling and wonderful feeling. We ate at Cara our first night, where chef Jacob made quite literally the best dining experience we have ever had. It could not have been done though without Andrew serving us. It was interactive and legitimately some of the most creative and best tasting plates I've ever had.We also ate at the cafe and were served by Clara who was so sweet and kind to us. Making the delicious meals even better by amazing service. Also a big thank you to everyone who constantly greeted and served us throughout our stay. Although we did not get to know all of their names, they made our stay incredible none the less.Everytime we left our room, they cleaned up and left us some surprise, that had us feeling so special. The best part is that all of this customer service felt genuine. They really do aim to serve and please. They care greatly and it shows. We are so grateful to have spent a few days there and you should definitely book a stay and experience this for yourself. There is so much to do around town and the front desk will even help you by suggesting or even setting things up for you to do. Making a stay at the Chanler plug and play for around town activities.

I have stayed at many luxury hotels, but The Chanler offered my Mom and I by far the best, most personal service I have experienced. It is beautiful and quaint, and the rooms are fabulous. However, it was the personalities of the check-in staff, especially Tammy, and our drivers and valets who pushed the experience off the charts. They were warm and friendly with the utmost professionalism. The dining room's lobster pasta dish was the best I've ever had. Access to the Cliff Walk was an absolute delight. Even the communication before we arrived was so helpful, and they made all the right dinner reservations for us. The ONLY suggestion I could possibly make is for them to add a continental breakfast option for those of us who want to have a quick bite before we start exploring for the day...rather than a large sit down breakfast. Thank you for introducing us to Newport in style.

What is the best time to visit Rhode Island?

The best time to visit Rhode Island largely depends on what you want to experience, but for most travelers, the months between June and September are considered ideal. During these summer months, Rhode Island’s coastal towns come alive with festivals, outdoor events, and beach activities. The weather is pleasantly warm, and you can fully enjoy the state’s beautiful beaches, dine al fresco, or partake in water-based activities. Newport, in particular, is bustling during this time with its famous sailing events and historic mansion tours. However, if you’re looking to avoid the crowds and enjoy a quieter, more budget-friendly trip, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons of late spring (April to May) or early fall (late September to October). During these times, you can still experience mild weather and fewer tourists. Fall also brings vibrant foliage, particularly in the state’s western regions, offering picturesque views for those interested in leaf-peeping.

Is Rhode Island expensive for tourists?

Rhode Island, particularly its popular destinations like Newport, can lean towards the pricier side for tourists, especially during peak season. Dining out, especially at seafood restaurants along the coast, can cost anywhere from $20 to $50 or more per person for dinner. Attractions like the Newport Mansions charge around $18 per adult for a single mansion tour, with multi-mansion tickets costing more. However, there are plenty of budget-friendly options as well. State beaches have minimal parking fees, and there are numerous free or low-cost events, parks, and natural beauty spots to explore. Still, like any destination, prices can fluctuate based on the time of year, specific location, and personal spending habits.

Can I book a hotel with a jacuzzi for a special occasion or celebration?

Absolutely! Many hotels in Rhode Island offer special packages or amenities for celebrations such as anniversaries, honeymoons, or birthdays. These packages may include champagne, chocolates, or other perks. Contact the hotel directly or check their website for information on special occasion packages.
