Beware of this place. We drove 3 hours one way for a St. Patrick's Day bus trip. The event in their banquet room was supposed to include an Irish themed lunch, professional Irish dancers, and a few other things. The meal was mediocre. The soup had so much salt, no one at our table could eat it. We were told upon arrival by the "manager" the dancers would preform after we ate. It was eventually discovered by some guests on our bus the dancers moved to another state months ago and the resort knew they would not be preforming as scheduled. The "manager" thought his lousy stand up comedy act would make up for the missing dancers and the fun interactions we were expecting with the dancers including a dance off. He also would not answer anyone asking where the dancers were during his "act". Someone on our bus on the way home said the "manager" at one point said "there were 3 buses here Tuesday and no one complained the dancers weren't here." The place looks abandoned on the outside. The inside looked ok. There were over 100 ladies at this event and only 2 of the 3 toilets were working in the women's room. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Should have read the other reviews before scheduling this trip. Seems shady business is normal business for them. On a positive note, our bus trip coordinator made things right for our bus.

Big thanks to Silver Birches for absolutely ruining our Easter dinner.Empty buffet trays, what was there was beyond ice cold and completely inedible. No one ate a bite. Some of my family dame from another state, drove all the way up here for this?Waited 30 mins for a waitnress to bring us drinks, all we got was water with stuff floating in it. It paired great with the pasta that had human hair in it. Never did see a waitressSo beyond disappointed. At least the piano player was lovely.

Beautiful views of the lake with a warm fire and cozy common areas. Our accommodations was extremely clean and comfortable. The front desk was exceptionally helpful and courteous with recommendations of dining options nearby. We enjoyed our stay and if ever we are back in the area, we’ll know where we will be headed.

An off property location a little further from town but clean and includes all the kitchen necessities . The efficiency suite was reminiscent of what you rent at the Jersey Shore, loved the retro feel! We stayed off season for New Year’s Eve but I think as a summer rental it would be ideal.

First, I'd like to start by saying that my partner and I stood at this hotel in March of 2022 and another time just recently - May of 2023. When we stood here last year, we really enjoyed our stay which is why we decided to book again after a failed attempt of booking in Lake Placid this year. We figured we already knew the hotel and felt comfortable booking again. We still enjoyed our stay this year but we did want to note a few things this time:Room: The room we stood in was the Deluxe King Room in the sunset building. It's the exact same room we stood in last year so we knew what to expect already. We loved our room and found it to be very cozy! The bathroom has a more modern feel compared to the actual room which I didn't mind at all. The bathroom had a wonderful rain shower with great pressure and hot temperatures and the room itself has a jetted whirlpool tub which I absolutely loved! Now here's to the downside of room - our room was on the second floor with a beautiful view of the lake. It's an old building so you hear absolutely everything. As soon as someone opens the main door to the building, our room door would shake and rattle. Our next door neighbors are also extremely close and you may hear conversations. This is something to just keep in mind. The most disappointing part of our stay was the fact that we were woken up at 5am two days in a row due to intense banging/stomping. We at first thought it was coming from downstairs since no one was above us but when we went down to listen, we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. It sounded like stomping aimlessly back and forth or a consistent banging that would stop and then start again a few minutes later. It shook the whole building. You could feel the vibration everywhere in the room. Pretty upsetting especially to experience 2 nights in a row as we thought maybe it would be a one time occurrence. We didn't get much sleep that weekend and were tired for mosService: Service is incredible. We didn't even want to complain about the noise we were hearing because everyone was so nice and we felt so bad. We are not big complainers. We usually keep things to ourselves and decided to spare the hotel staff with any complaints because everyone really was so warm and welcoming and lovely and we didn't want to be a bother.Breakfast: Last year during our stay we had breakfast at The Dock each morning of our stay. It was amazing. So many options, a very big hot breakfast that really helped us save on cash since we didn't have to eat out every the morning. I guess as of recent The Dock is no longer serving breakfast and instead, the hotel staff offers a continental breakfast consisting of oats, plain yogurt, apples, oranges, orange juice, some muffins and boiled eggs. While the effort is extremely appreciated, it just didn't compare to the hot breakfast we once had there. We still found ourselves going out for breakfast and spending more than we were expecting. I wish I would have asked about the breakfast prior to booking but I assumed it would be the same as last year. We feel we definitely lost out in that department.Overall, we still had a great time! Being by the lake is so peaceful. We always look for the positive even though something might not be the best. The hotel does offer champagne toasts every night and occasional fun get togethers like a cheese board in the library. If you are someone looking for a cozy room with a beautiful view, I would give this place a shot! The staff are some of the friendliest hotel staff we've ever encountered and it doesn't go unnoticed. We are thankful to everyone who worked hard to try and make our stay wonderful. Thank you!

Went to this location on a bus trip. Left town and drove out. Upon arrival, a gentleman came out and it was very organized. They guided us to the correct tables for us to sit and get refreshments before lunchtime. Food spread was amazing, everything was delicious and you can keep asking for more until you have to uncomfortably unbutton the pans and release the tension on your zipper. But then comes out the Staff to clean all that mess up to bring you dessert, because, on a trip like this, diabetes is always the answer. Then you can't forget about the open bar, the beer was amazing and cold, and there were specialty cocktails, everyone loves them. The entire staff was amazing. The view from what we got to see was, breathtaking as my wife describes it. After making it home after a long, yet wonderful day we write this review to share that you should definitely must stop there anytime you can, and we will definitely be returning.

My wife and I booked reservations for Easter 2024 at 3pm. We were a little early, so we went to the bar for a cocktail. We were seated at our table just before 3pm. Our waitress was very courteous and took our order for appetizers and our entrees. They arrived with in 10 minutes, my wife’s was nice, mine was fair, the bread was burnt, I let this go. From this point we waited for over an hour for our entrees. Upon receiving them we got sliced tenderloin that was fatty and gristle throughout. We ordered a Petit Filet, oh well. The outside was burned, the baby carrots were shriveled and the onions black. The mashed potatoes were cold. We asked to see the manager who was apologetic, and “comped” our food, but food like this should never have been served. We left and ended up getting pizza. I originally sent a similar message to the Settlers Hospitality Group, but heard nothing back. For our holiday to have been so bad, I feel that the least the restaurant should have done is to comp us a meal to show us that quality food is served at the Settler’s Inn.UPDATE: Reached out to the manager Steve, he is sending us a gift card to come back and have a nice meal. This time we will go on a quieter day. Thank you to THE Settler’s Inn for their gracious hospitality in doing this for us! If their food is as I hope it will be, I will write a new review detailing our meal.

We stayed at the Settlers Inn for my fiances birthday. We decided to get away from the hustle and bustle of NJ traffic and crowds and stay somewhere a little more quiet and quaint. We got EXACTLY what we were looking for in quiet and quaint. Such a cute Inn.The only disappointment was the room I wanted to reserve on the 1st floor was being renovated, so they had to give us a different room on the 2nd floor. As a smoker with back issues and no elevators, the 2nd floor was a wee bit problematic, especially when taking the luggage, but, the service, the feel of the Inn, the cute feel of the town of Hawley, and the food in the Settlers restaurant made the backache way more tolerable LOL. We were even greeted with a nice birthday card for my fiance, which we have received before when we stayed at high end hotels in bigger cities, but never in a small Inn such as this one. Nice touch! We were greeted by Kevin, a super nice guy working the front desk. Kevin had texted me prior to our stay to ask if we would like anything added to the room, or if we needed dinner reservations. We arrived late the first night (around 830), so Kevin was able to suggest two other restaurants that could accommodate us at that time. His personal favorite was on the mark. Raven and Robin was delicious and they were able to seat us even though we arrived at 930pm.We had dinner at the Inn the second night. Every morsal of food was amazing. We had the last reservation and asked to take our dessert to go and they presented it on a cute tray for us to take with us. Everything from the architecture to the ambiance makes you feel cozy and comfy with a hint of class. Everything in Hawley takes you back to a different time period, which is really refreshing. We asked for breakfast to be brought to our room the final day to finish up packing, and it was brought up as ordered with everything needed to accompany our breakfast. I have had bad experiences with room service and they were on the mark! They have another property a wee bit aways down the road. It is next to the silk mill (if you go to the silk mill, you have to go to the art gallery and speak to the curator, who is rich with history if the area and with art. He took us on a tour of the building and everyone there knows him. He was worth the trip there alone). We plan to stay at their other property the next time we visit. It looks amazing as well. The only issue I had with the room was it would have been great to have a small fridge and microwave. We had to throw away leftovers from dinner because there was nowhere to store them. We brought a cooler, but being on the 2nd floor, it was way too heavy to carry up the stairs, so I had to keep going to the car to grab our beverages as there was nowhere to keep them cold. That was the only downside to the stay, and it certainly wouldn't keep us from staying in the future. I would plan according and take a smaller cooler to transfer drinks (I also have a fridge that holds up to 6 water bottles/or cans I would bring as well).I would definitely recommend the Settlers Inn if you plan to stay in Hawley. The service and ambiance is worth a few extra bucks for the rooms (verses some of the cheaper accommodations in the area). Thank you all for making his birthday weekend a great one. We look forward to staying again!

Mixed review. We have stayed here several times but probably won’t return. The food was very disappointing. One meal made me sick, the other so bland that I didn’t eat it. Most rooms need upgrading, bathrooms especially. In the room we had there was no way to plug in and charge your phone thus no clock. The staff was accommodating but, for the price, it’s not worth it.

We meet our friends here every year. We all come from three different states and this is our meeting place! The rooms are quaint and they are all unique. The architecture is breathtaking and the history just adds to the ambiance. We enjoy hanging out in the main area next to the massive fire place!!! The restaurant is great and Saturday nights they have a piano player. And the bartender knows his stuff!!! Breakfast is included and amazing!!! Great place to just relax and enjoy your friends!!!

I stayed 2 nights in a hotel suite to go ski Big Bear with my family. This was our second time to say at this hotel and again, we had a great time. I like how this hotel preserves the charm of the old building. Subdued decorations are also a good match. The rooms we stayed were not huge, but they were big enough for three of us. They were clean, and nicely decorated with a modern bathroom. All the hotel staff were friendly, warm and made us feel at home. We relaxed in the evenings sitting by the fireplace in the lobby. We enjoyed included full service breakfast at the hotel restaurant. I had no complaints at all. I recommend staying at this hotel.

We came for the Candlelight Christmas dinner. It's been our first time back since COVID. While we enjoyed the atmosphere, the food was very disappointing. The salad was good with a tasty dressing. The salmon in both of our dishes was severely undercooked. Some prefer rare salmon, but the mussels in the dish were not even opened which should give an idea how undercooked the dish was. I took most of my dish home where I could at least cook the fish and eat it. The peppermint pillow dessert was awful. The cream puff-like exterior was rock hard and inedible. The ice cream was fine, but the portion size was so small. The desserts other years like the baked Alaska were phenomenal so I was underwhelmed. For a $115 prix fixe menu, I would expect the food to be impeccably cooked. Finally, we had some people in our party with dietary concerns. The menu had multiple errors in it (i.e. the veal chop and bacon appetizer were both marked "V" for vegetarian). Their menu had been posted for weeks. There was no reason this couldn't have been corrected for the printed restaurant version. The details for this event seemed to be lacking compared to other years which took away from our experience. I don't mind paying their price for a nice evening and great food, but I left disappointed, if not slightly embarrassed, that I raved so much about this event to our friends who we brought with us. It did not live up to the expectations based on our past experiences.

I used to enjoy brunch here despite the high prices. However, the portions have gotten ridiculously small for what is charged. On our last visit, the butternut squash soup was served in an extremely shallow plate which literally contained no more than 4 ounces of soup. Granted, the soup was delicious, but the stinginess of the portion made for a complete disappointment. I commented on the portion size to the waiter. He was polite but only offered an apology. The burger was a preformed patty, and even that seemed to have shrunk from previous visits. Only one bread roll not much larger than a golf ball was served to two adults. This is a shame because it's hard to find places with similar ambiance in Wayne County. I won't be returning nor recommending Settlers unless there are seismic changes to the portions and prices. I'm not looking for an all-you-can-eat buffet, but be reasonable, guys.

I don’t even know where to begin. If I had a choice I’d give no stars. The reason it gets one star is because the waiter was amazing. He was very polite and patient. Other than that this is a failing business. I believe a new chef is in order. This was my second and last time coming here. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The prices are absolutely outrageous for the portions they give you. Now that being said I attached a picture of my dinner for tonight. A 39 dollar dish of chicken the size of a golf ball. The chicken was super dry with no flavor. The chef burned my potatoes and brussel sprouts. The appetizers were a complete disgrace as well. How can you mess up a dinner with three other customers in the restaurant. Is your job really that difficult? The provolone appetizer was completely burned at the bottom. I may have gotten three bites max out of that. Who burns cheese to a pan to serve it to their customers? Your chef did. Who serves wild boar chili soap as an appetizer with three little chunks of boar cold? Who does that? Oh yes the settlers inn does. Not to mention I go to use your facilities to relieve myself and the it looks as if someone puked chunks into your bathroom sink. I notified someone at the front desk which they said they would look into it. They didn’t. I went to the bathroom later on and the mess wasn’t cleaned up. I attached a picture to this review as well. “With over 40 years in business, The Settlers Inn has earned a reputation for exemplary service and high quality.” This was on another reviewers comment that the restaurant responded to. A big joke. 40 years in the business they claim? I think it’s time to retire the business now since you can’t keep up with anything. If you want an amazing experience for a quarter of the price and way better flavor. I suggest going to a local diner for dinner. You’ll be disappointed if you come here. You might as well go to an old folks home for dinner and empty out your entire bank account for super under par food. Do yourself a favor and do not go to The Settlers Inn people. There’s definitely better food out there. Stan’s diner and two guys from Italy will put this restaurant to shame.
