We had a delightful time staying at the Oliver Inn, 630 W.Washington St, South Bend Indiana. Great place to stay if you are visiting the university or just there for vacation. Excellent and varied breakfast home made every morning. Very attentive and helpful owners. I would recommend this Bed and Breakfast and would stay there again. My husband left some items and the host and hostess graciously mailed them back to us.Beth & Keith
I would gladly go back to visit Tom and Alice at the Oliver Inn anytime. I appreciated the small details that made our trip enjoyable including chocolates on the pillows, the man playing piano at breakfast, and snacks available in the pantry throughout the day. Alice made a fantastic breakfast both days (doughnuts, scones, quiche, fruit plate, strawberry bread) and helped us decide what to do with our time in South Bend (farmers market, history museum, notre dame).
Such a beautiful and relaxing inn. Breakfast was wonderful, our room was perfect, attention to detail in every space made us feel special. Highly recommend you stay here.
Another outstanding event at Oliver Inn! Thanks Alice & Tom, for your attention to detail, and for making our sweet bride feel so special. Haley was well loved and her family and guests are so grateful.
What a wonderful place to stay for a few days - just what my wife and I neeed for our anniversary! Tom and Alice were very gracious hosts, made us excellent breakfasts each day we stayed and our room was incredible. Great location near all the fun places we went to during our stay. Will stay at this great place again!
Wow. What a stunning place to stay along our multi-visit trip.Alice was so warm, understanding and helpful. Top notch. The Oliver B&B embodies hospitality at its finest. Everything is so well thought out and perfectly laid in place. Breakfast was excellent. Each room is unique.
We recently stayed at this beautifully maintained historic inn for four nights while exhibiting at the Leeper Park Art Fair. The inn and the magnificent grounds were spotless. Tom and Alice were very friendly and accommodating. My wife has a gluten allergy. Alice went out of her way to make her special breakfasts and snacks to take with us to the show. Tom is very familiar with the history of the area as well as that of the inn. Another great benefit of staying at the Oliver is that it is next door to the Tippecanoe Mansion which was built by one of the owners of the Studebaker car company. It has a great restaurant and bar with self guided tour after of before dinner.
Unfortunately, the rooms are quite dated and musty. ( dolls downstairs … lot of flower wallpaper very old rugs ) Could not get the hot water to run every day the tub would be warm then turn TOO JUST COLD nothing worse . . Could not get 30 ++year old tub to drain at all ( tub was older than me ? I was going to bring my issues up with the fact that there wasn’t any hot water (when I went to check out, the innkeeper was on his phone back towards me Arguing with with a woman ( very agitated) on the phone who is going to check in the rollaway bed )Had breakfast one morning, but passed on the rest the older people eating are quite loud( I had real difficulty )old electronic door with passcode connecting… It is VERY cold outside … and I had a long day at the nearby hospital with a family members ) had to wait in the cold until they let me know the right number to put the passcode ? I rang bell … and rang bell ( why wouldn’t that also be sent with a welcome text . The second night didn’t seem to connect with door wouldn’t open) windows have severe cobwebs, and are very dirty inside the frame ( gross bugs Cobb webs ) as I tried to open one for some fresh air .. wouldn’t work . It’s really tired although the inn keepers wife (is very pleasant and I didn’t have time to look around for another option and the time ) there were many games in town so all the lodging was gone . It does look very inviting from the outside.. but it needs to be completely remodeled freshened. Has nice bones but stuck in time warp ( Old carpets old paint) .
Alice and her husband Tom are more than accommodating hosts and gracious people. The mansion itself is absolutely GORGEOUS. It is extremely clean and well kept up. There is plenty of storage. Each suite has all the stuff you need, even homemade soap and bath bomb/salts. The beds, pillows, towels, bedding are extremely comfortable. Breakfast is provided and was delicious fresh fruit, omelet skillet with spinach and peppers, banana bread and fresh made coffee/juice. The mansion is just tucked in the corner of a busy area so it's close to attractions and restaurants, but still quiet and relaxing. It was an absolute pleasure staying here. We will be returning for sure! I would recommend this stay to everyone, especially instead of the usual big hotel. Family owned and run definitely outdoes it this time!
Staying here with my husband for our 21st Anniversary and it is absolutely stunning! It is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. So comfortable, relaxing, with so many extra special perks!
Loved this bed and breakfast! They made you feel like part of the family . Rooms were very clean and comfortable. The only disappointment I had was that my bath water was not hot but that won’t keep us away. I love the atmosphere they have created and the history of the home.
We had an excellent stay at The Oliver Inn. The owners were so kind and very helpful. You can tell they work hard and care about the details. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. A couple fun things: there were large "Oliver Inn" peppermint chocolates on our pillows to greet us and there was a heated towel rack in the bathroom. Walking downtown to explore was very easy, and we felt safe in the area. Breakfast was delicious: cheesecakes, chocolate bread, stuffed french toast, sausage, fruit, and great coffee. The only critique we have is the water pressure is quite low and the water didn't get past lukewarm for showers. Other than that, 5 stars all around.
Rooms, disgusting. Looks like urine and fecal stains everywhere. Got sheets replace with slightly less dirty ones.Service, terrible. I had reservations and they couldn't accommodate me in a timely manner. Sent me to another location at 3am. Location, I'd rather sleep in a parking lot in hell!
Horrible place. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! First of all, we booked the room ahead of time and when we arrived they told us the room isn't ready. Once we FINALLY got into the room, we noticed the unmade beds...and to top that off the bed sheets were covered in crap stains, and pee stains. Spaghetti all over the toilet seats and pool was closed due to unhygienic violations. The room smelled disgusting. You're better off sleeping at the airport.
This place is horrible don’t stay here, the rooms were DISGUSTING… there was dried up old spaghetti all in the bed sheets, not sure what happened there. Stay away from this establishment, they should be getting fines.
Recently stayed at this place, this place absolutely a joke. The whole hotel smelled, toilet didn’t flush, bed sheet dirty, the pool was drained. Beware of the good reviews cause these were years ago.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Catch shut eye at a rest area before staying here! Unless you like being a Buffett for bed bugs! This was an overnight somewhere to sleep between home and our destination kind of stay; so there just to sleep & get back on the road. It was the ONLY place we stayed before getting to Detroit. We booked the room prior to our trip via the Choice Hotel app - so planned. BIG MISTAKE! Even though we were literally there from 12:30(ish) AM - 5:30 AM. I couldn’t sleep…..I’d soon find out why!The room we slept in - pet friendly two queen beds - had bed bugs that decided I was a great feast! We got in later than expected, and I have never been so happy to be too tired to bring up our overnight bag - packed with our stuff just for this kind of sleep and go stay. I’d rather be stinky in two days old road clothes than have risked bringing bed bugs to my dad’s by bring up our go bag!Not only was the room so unworthy of 30$, much less over 100$, I ended up with 14 bed bug bites total! The allergic reaction to the bites - that started within hours of waking - triggered my asthma and I had to battle mild wheezing for a couple days. On top of maddening itching! The bed I slept in literally looked and felt like the ones they offer at the Salvation Army! Except the one I slept in also came with bed bugs! The reviews about the state of the rooms - smells, disrepair, beds, possible mold, disgusting floors, dated bedding, & bed bugs - being terrible, are 100% correct! I find it VERY hard to believe this place was decent within the past two years! So take heed! This place is disgusting! This place should NOT be offered on the Choice app! (Yes, we reported this place to them as well) And should not be open until they get rid of the bed bugs and fix this place! However, for us to ever stay here again, they would have to knock this place down burn the rubble, cart that off to some dump to be burned again, and then rebuild from ground up before we will ever stay here again!
First off the hotel looks NOTHING like the photos! Walked in and there was a strong Chlorine smell come to find out the pool had a letter from code enforcement on the door stating to not go in the pool because it is so nasty you would get a disease from getting in it! The lady at the desk was extremely rude! I requested to see my room to make sure it was clean she was mad about that then showed us the room, and then gave us a totally different room! I was so upset and the room she gave us had a leak! Also they control the air conditioning at this time is was 99 degrees so our stay was miserable!! Also there was a bunch of homeless people and drunks outside day and night asking for money! 0-10 would not recommend!!! Please don’t stay here yes it’s cheap but it’s not worth losing your sanityOver!!
This place is an absolute DUMP. Was welcomed by three of South Bend's homeless community squatting in shade of motor lobby awning right by front door. Pool is drained. Outside trash cans overflowing with trash. Linens and towels dingy and old. Pillows were terrible and bed felt like a trampoline. Room was missing bath towels and coffee pot (machine present), coffee and coffee cups. Frig had someone's old cups of orange juice inside and was not cold, even after turning thermostat down. Front desk girl did not speak English so communication was difficult. Only 2 good things to say; Sheets appeared clean and room had no bed bugs. This place SUCKS. AVOID.P.S. Water pressure was non-existent at the sink and shower. Another homeless person going off on front desk clerk while I'm cooking my waffle. The dining room and elevator were probably 90 degrees. I took my food up to the room. Stay anywhere but here. You're welcome.
I was not able to check in for 30 minutes as there was no one at the front desk present. When I checked in to my room it was hot, the AC was blowing out warm air. The bed was dirty, I pulled back the blankets and saw red blood stains that looked like bed bug stains on the sheets (attached). I found a dead bed bug on the mattress after pulling everything off. I obviously could not stay there but the hotel refused a refund so I was not only out the $75 for the hotel, but also had to book another hotel last minute across town. I do not recommend staying here at all. I'm honestly shocked it is still in business. I think the positive reviews are quite old.
